Requirements and Prototype

Volker Mothes, Laszlo Pitlik, Karlheinz Wendt

In the Central and Eastern European Countries a wide range of farms and agricultural enterprises as well as the agro-food industry have been developed. Although they get more or less support by the government they all have to prove their competitiveness on the market. Therefore, these farms and enterprises have

Many of them focus their activities on local or regional markets, whereas others want to deal on national and international markets. All these activities induce a special demand for information, which can be satisfied by advising and education. The on-line information system TRANS-AGRAR mainly based on new Information Technologies (ITs) shall be established, especially to support advising, education and research in the Central and Eastern European Countries on their way into the European Union (EU).

The above-mentioned on-line information system TRANS-AGRAR can only be realized step-by-step. There are two tasks are realizable until September 1999:

To realize task one, our presentation should be focused on checking for new trends of Internet-applications in advising and education. Main topics are emphasized. Task two includes an analysis of the technical and technological requirements for the on-line information system TRANS-AGRAR and the development of a TRANS-AGRAR prototype referring to the cost-cutting effects of horizontal cooperation in using agricultural machines.

This prototype shows both, the technical realization of information exchange via Internet and a proposal to solve a special problem of farm management. It should be used in education in the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and in the Agricultural University Gödöllö.

This contribution provides an overview about problems and alternate solutions for Internet- presentations aimed to support agribusiness mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.
