Frequently Asked Questions - Document Catalogue

What kind of elements can be found in the catalogue?

The eLibrary contains the types of elements as follows:

  • Articles, studies (lists of personal publications, publications with only a summary in the background, publications with full text in the background)
  • Analyses (offline - MS Excel-based expert systems and pivot tables, online - expert systems and OLAP solutions)
  • Multimedia objects (sounds, pictures, videos, slides etc.)
  • Projects (lists of institutional publications, documents with only a summary in the background, documents with full text in the background)
  • Services
  • Education supporting (kind of "eLearning") objects (hypertext support, presentations, special educational applications, encyclopedias etc.)

In addition to the main elements mentioned above - as a technical connection - language versions and citations in the database related to each document will also be recorded.

What kind of grouping does the catalogue use?

The elements in the catalogue were grouped into a two-level system (main groups and subgroups), so at this stage of development they were assigned to key words by manual indexing. The elements of the catalogue were not only indexed in one reference system (view, dimension) but several views were defined, for example: animal husbandry (agricultural) sectors, thematic groups and OSIRIS knowledge elements.

Naturally, one particular document might have been categorized in more than one or even all views or it may be a part of more groups inside one view. At the same time there may be records that are not relevant for some views, therefore they were not indexed into those particular groups. Of course, the development of views, groups and indexes can be continued in the future even based on the recommendation of users.

How can I find a document in the catalogue?

Our homepage offers several opportunities for users to navigate in the document catalogue:

  • Search: See details below.
  • By using the document tree on the front page: You can click on both the names of main groups and subgroups, so all the records related to them will be available for you. You can choose the views of the document groups from the roll down menu in the middle of the page.
  • By using the 10 latest records on the front page: On the one hand you can get to the documents themselves from here. On the orther hand there are two icons below the date of upload, the first one indicates the type of the record and the second (permanent) one shows the author ("owner") of the record. You can use the latter two links to filter records according to their type or owner.
  • From the menu list by clicking on the link "eLibrary": On the one hand navigation from here is available via database views and on the other hand via types of records. In the first case you can choose the desired document group by using two roll down menus. In the latter case the results will show the documents in the chosen type of record that you can arrange by date or in alphabetical order.

What kind of information can I receive of a given record?

After finding the link to the record you are interested in, then first you do not receive the document itself by clicking on it but its data sheet. Firstly, the data sheet shows all the relevant pieces of information that are recorded of the given record, secondly it shows all the groups that the document was added to and finally it includes the comments about the record.

Can I make comments about the records?

Yes, our homepage provides you with an opportunity to make comments about the records by clicking on the link "Make a comment" at the bottom of the page. Then you can send your comment and even mark the document after you are ready. It is a very important fact that your comment will only appear on our page after the moderator has approved it.
